Welcome to BAMA Learn Burmese! We aim to help total beginners grasp the basics of colloquial Burmese.

I suggest starting with Burmese by Ear (audio) and pdf by John Okell.

Peek on Resources and the Cheatsheets for a summary of the script. BAMA Class will begin with tone, pronunciation, romanization, and basic rules. Take your time to familiarize yourself with the script; write it out multiple times on paper to imprint it in your memory while pronouncing it. Here, we use the romanization from John Okell.

 

The materials here are prepared by the BAMA team and volunteers. We do our best to help you become familiar with the Burmese language, build vocabulary, and engage in friendly, casual conversations with natives. We always welcome volunteers who wish to contribute or refer us to translated short or long stories, articles, books, audio, YouTube channels, websites, mobile apps, teachers, institutions, etc.
